Contemporary Abstract Paintings

Jon Adam is a contemporary abstract artist based in West Dorset. His preferred medium is oil on large canvases or board. He grinds his own pigments to produce oils of precisely the right depth of colour and consistency to create rich, vibrant images.

Adam finds inspiration in the natural world, in particular the coastal landscapes of Dorset and Cornwall. The light, reflection, sense of space, and the ever changing-yet-unchanging nature of the sea are reassuring in today's over-crowded, over-instructed, over-roaded world.

He bases his palette on the immense range of colours of the sea and sky, but also on the broader harbour and beach environment, be it manmade or natural: seaside flora, boats, and the flotsam and jetsam washed up on the shore from seaweed to rusty oil drums.
